Description: 1890’s James Naismith cdv. Published by Les Des Marias Co of Montreal. Naismith came from Canada to the US in the 1890’s. He invented basketball in Massachusetts. The Basketball Hall of Fame is named after him. This is possibly the oldest image of Naismith. This might be the oldest basketball card. There are cabinet cards of Naismith from his time in Montreal. Judging by his likeness in this cdv, I believe he is younger in this image than the known Naismith’s. Cdv measures about 2 by 4 inch in size. Minor stains, toning and wear. Feel free to ask questions.
