Description: 1936 Photo of the Railroad (Black) Bridge across the Androscoggin River in Brunswick, ME during the 1936 flood. A crowd watches from Mill Street in Brunswick as waters from the Androscoggin River lap at the railroad bridge across the Androscoggin from Brunswick to Topsham during the Flood of 1936. The bridge, also known as the Black Bridge, carries trains across the tracks at the upper part of the structure and automobiles below. The automobile deck of the bridge is being washed away. The train was on the tracks to keep the upper portion of the bridge stable during the flood. This is an 8x10 black and white unframed photo, the corners have some creases (see photos). On the back side of the photo is stamped the name of the photographer and “Brunswick, ME. Hand written at the bottom is “March, 1936”, and “Branch-line R.R. Bridge ice-jammed, Brunswick, ME”.
