Description: Folio of Spare's fantastic automatic drawings printed in a limited edition in 1972 by Catalpa Press from an original work Spare completed in the early 20th. century. This was the first time the original work was reprinted. 1000 total with this one being #566. The folio is large, measures 12.5" x 17.5" and has 16 images. The exterior cover edges, because of the light weight paper used, have some edge and corner bends. None of this affects the interior of the folio.The pages are of a high quality rag paper, pristine clean, white, and crisp and the printing is high quality. The binding is tight. There's a good two page intro that starts the book with a discussion of Spare's approach to automatic drawing and his kinship with other artists of the grotesque, Goya, etc..
