Description: Frankie Avalon & Fabian Unreleased Combined Promo Chancellor Records CHL 5011 & 5012MonoNear Mint Minus / ExcellentCustom inner sleeve This is a version of this release whose existence is unaccounted for in any online reference I have been able to uncover, even in Discogs, which generally has everything in the way of vinyl oddities. I can't say for sure if this pressing was intentional on the part of Chancellor as a limited promo, a one off, or a flat out goof at the pressing plant. In any event, you have the album cover of Frankie Avalon's "Summer Scene", front and back and the first run color inner sleeve with one side promoting a national contest to win Frankie Avalon swag, up to and including - a "Date With Frankie Avalon" and liner notes and track lineup on the opposite side. Where it gets particularly interesting is that the LP itself, features on Side A - Frankie Avalon's tracks from the regular issue album, but on Side B - you have the actual Side B tracks from Chancellor's release from the other teen idol in their stable, Fabian - "Good Old Summertime". This is what makes me think there might have been some inexplicable purpose to this, perhaps for in store play in conjunction with the season of Summer, but if so, there are no promo markings. As I said, there is no reference to the existence of this particular item in Discogs, only the details of the two separate releases. They do mention that there were only a limited number of the covers issued with the hype sticker "Win A Date With Frankie Contest" and that once winners were selected, the next production runs excluded the sticker and the custom contest info inner sleeve. It's an oddball, not to be found anywhere on the internet on any resale platform, including here on eBay. LP: (Graded) Near Mint Minus / Excellent Plus , according to Goldmine record grading definitions. This record grades as an LP that appears to either have been handled or played on a small number of occasions only in the most cautious manner possible but picked up only just a few very small and minor surface sleeve scuffs (not scratches) somewhere along the way that have no effect on tracking or playability (see Play Grade details below). The plating surfaces retain their as new glossiness and the labels are in outstanding shape with no spindle trails. The record is also exceptionally clean and turntable ready. Play Graded: Near Mint Plus - This LP, in terms of absence of surface noise, is pretty close to Compact Disc quietness. So, on the below linear graph, the in between tracks rating is 9.4 or better and during song selections, is 9.7 or better. The quietness of digital and the richness of analog. The sonics, in terms of clarity, dynamics, imaging and definition, are excellent. Cover: (Graded) Near Mint Minus - very light degree of shelfwear anywhere on the cover. All solid seams and fully legible spine printing. Retains original issue custom contest details innersleeve.
