Description: Here is a Rare, magnificently beautiful Antique Japanese MEIJI Period SATSUMA KORO (Incense Burner) created by Okamura Shozan (1842-1905) and made for Koshida. It is a most remarkable piece of Satsuma, with amazing painted detail throughout bearing two exceptionally decorated Panels with incredible Artwork within - the external ground is beautifully patterned and has a Millefleurs Motif with mostly Chrysanthemums. The Lid knob is Incredible and unique - never seen anything like it. The Censor maintains a nicely designed and decorated tripod base. One of the Panels has exceptionally painted pair of Peacocks amidst Chrysanthemums Foliage and the other has a pair of beautiful Ducks in a Pond amidst Wisteria and Irises. The Incredibly Rare & Beautiful Lid has, what I believe is, an amazing Phoenix (wings spread) intricately painted on the Lids knob (please look at the images of it). The details in the Gold Gilding were done quite intricately - highlighting beautifully, yet not overly so. It is in Excellent Condition - looks like it's Mint, which is amazing when one considers its age. It measures 3 7/16 inches by 3 1/16 inches wide and is fully marked. This very Rare and Beautiful Okamura Shozan Satsuma Koro is a must-have for any serious collector and would enhance any Satsuma Collection - it's sure to be a conversation starter in any collection.
