Description: An item like this does not come around often. This is a six strand Native American ( maybe Navajo) necklace. Hand made from Venetian trade beads, conical silver beads, pennies used as charms, a thimble, carved bone and even animal teeth. It is artfully made so the layers look amazing all together on the six different strands. The strands are anchored to a leather strap on each side of the clasp then their ends are threaded through conical silver beads which attach to either end of the hook. This necklace is in original, untouched condition and there is no evidence of repair of re-stringing. The trade beads are magnificent, the underlying and unifying beads across all strands being the small red glass beads. The penny charms are actual American pennies dated 1883 & 1907. This was made by a Native American for trade or sale to the non native trade probably in the mid 19teens. The piece has a beautiful balance of elements and was artistically arranged so all can be seen when worn. It makes a lovely chiming sound with movement. A truly exceptional find to find one of these so loaded with amazing beads and eclectic charms in amazing original condition. Most often these are not found with their original clasps, strands are missing or the piece has been restrung. Please see my detailed photos as an integral part of the condition description. Please let me know if you have any questions.
