Peter Van Kuykendall also known as Pete Roberts, was an American bluegrass musician, songwriter, discographer and a magazine and music publisher. He and his wife Katherine (Kitsy) were the founders of Bluegrass Unlimited magazine. Pete is also an inductee of the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. I have MANY pieces of music history belonging to them that I acquired including a large selection of signed memorabilia from famous country and bluegrass icons.This 1987 Sue Foskey quality and valuable mohair teddy bear has been even more desirable with the right foot being signed by the legend, John Hartford. Measures about 10" and in very nice overall condition, as pictured. John Hartford (1937 - 2001) was an American musician, composer and entertainer who was known for his mastery of the banjo and fiddle, as well as his unique vocal style and witty lyrics. He was also a riverboat pilot and deckhand, and was fascinated by Mississippi River lore. Hartford's music was a blend of folk, country, and bluegrass, and he was known for performing solo, switching between the guitar, banjo, and fiddle from song to song. He was a regular on The Glen Campbell Good Time Hour and The Smothers Brothers Show, and contributed music and narration to Ken Burns' Civil War series. He was also part of the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack and the Down From The Mountain concert tour.Hartford's most successful song was "Gentle on My Mind", which won three Grammy Awards and was listed in "BMI's Top 100 Songs of the Century". He wrote the song after watching Doctor Zhivago in 1966. In the 1980s, Hartford became friends with the Deering family and they designed a banjo named after him. The banjo features a Grenadillo Wood Tone Ring that gives it a deeper tone, and a lighter weight option for dancing
