Vintage Excellent 70s Stetson Beaver 4X Open Crown -WillCustomShape Brown 7-1/4

Description: Here’s a great Older Vintage 1970s-1980s Stetson Open Crown ( easily shaped to a BIG GUS / Tom Mix, Tall Cattleman, write to us for custom shaping) cowboy hat, size 7-1/4 ( we know the tag states 7-1/8 but this measure to a PERFECT 7-1/4) - 4X Beaver. This is the OLD vintage 4X Beaver and Nothing like you find in todays or yesterdays hats! This is very Soft and Pliable! Unlike the newer ones that we have looked at, they are just to Hard and Stiff! Well that’s our own opinion. This was worn less than a handful of times. You can see the leather sweatband has extremely minor wear on it. It’s completely and securely attached all the way around and still very soft and pliable! Dad and Grandson steamed the brim flat and my grandson did like the way it looked but if you wanted the brim reshaped they will re-steam a shovel type brim into the hat, you just need to write and ask. You can see how soft it is, we added that pictures of grandson Hand Bashing shaping the Tom Mix / Gus and other crown shapes by hand, it took all of 15-20 seconds to do that shape. The Older 4X Beaver and will hold its shape once Hand Bashed. We just can’t describe in words exactly how soft and pliable this hat is! “ Hand Bashing” this into any style just takes seconds to do! If you’d like a shape steamed into the hat please write to us. Dad will no longer do the rolled brim. It takes a lot of hand control and manipulation and just can’t do that anymore. For some reason we were not able to add the video we took? We will try again at a later date. The color is a Medium Brown. The picture of the whole underside is the best representation of the actual color. It’s a medium brown color. It is easy to identify this as an early 1970-1980s by the liner design. That’s the newer “Last Drop” logo. The older 1940s-1950s “Last Drop” similar one actually has parts embroidered into the liner. This was actually manufactured by Stetson! This is NOT a a HATCO product, very big difference. These older Beaver hats are so easy to work with! This is very soft and pliable and so very easily steamed and shaped.This is NOT anything like the newer, EXTREMELY stiff Resistol or Stetson or other manufacturers hat! Once dad and grandson steamed this into an Open Crown. We all agreed that because of the brim shape this would look great as a Gus or Tom Mix cowboy hat. So that shape can be steamed into the hat. If you’d like it steamed into the hat please write and ask us to steam it that way. Also if you’d like the sides steamed with the dents on it, dad and grandson will do that also. If you look at some of dad’s other listing, Tom Mix - Gus hats you can see what that would look like. Or if you’d like a Tall Cattleman’s or Rancher (Diamond Crown) we can do that shaping also. We NO longer do Pencil Rolls! It’s just extremely difficult to do now with arthritic hands. Apologies, but any decent Hat Store will do that for you.The hat box is BIG so shipping is a few of dollars more than we usually charge. That original Stetson hat box is still in good condition with some very minor paper wear and well worthy of storing and displaying. This has its original hat holding insert set too.Dad wants to keep the hat box with the hat but you are welcome to write and ask if he’s willing to ship just the hat without the hat box? It’s still a very big hat and will cost about $23 to ship without the hat box.If you have any questions please write us. The was a hat tag states 7-1/8 but this measures to a perfect 7-1/4 at 22-3/4 inches. See pictures. We actually measure each hat 3 times to verify the size, whether tagged or not. Dad doesn’t remember if this was actually stretched at some point but it doesn’t appear to have been stretched at all. Details Medium Brown All measurements are taken in the Open Crown shape.
